Metglas®,
Inc. produces proprietary alloys
and products that exhibit unique
mechanical, electrical, and magnetic
properties for use in electronic,
industrial and consumer-related
applications. From small inductor
cores used in personal computers
to industrial-size transformers
found in power grid distribution
and large manufacturing plants,
Metglas® amorphous
alloy products provide the energy-efficiency
needed in these dynamic markets.
Metglas®,
Inc. ( then Allied
Signal ) pioneered the development
of amorphous metal alloys in 1970
and began commercialization in the
early 1980s. Our brand name,
Metglas®, is synonymous
with the characteristics of the
product. Formed by a rapid solidification
process, the metal cools at a rate
of one million degrees Celsius per
second, resulting in an atomic structure
similar to that of glass. This unique
structure enables easy magnetization
and demagnetization and creates
physical characteristics beneficial
to many applications.
Metglas®
electronic components are used
in switch mode and uninterruptible
power supply and design. High
frequency electronic cores made
with Metglas® amorphous
metal alloy consistently outperform
conventional silicon-steel or
ferrite cores. Metglas®
components allow faster switching
for higher frequency operation.
All Metglas® high
frequency cores experience up
to 70% lower losses than cores
made of any other material.
Metglas®
Pulse Power Cores are used in
high voltage, high power applications
requiring short, narrow pulses
at high rep rate.
Metglas®
Magnetic materials are being used
in many everyday, and specialized
applications. Industries have
discovered that the unique magnetic
properties found in metglas allow
them to be used in a variety of
applications, from magnetic tags
that prevent theft, to large magnetic
applications, that require a magnetic
field to be turned on and off.
Components made from Metglas Magnetic
Material can be found in everyday
electronics, to highly technical
medical and industrial applications,
as well as being used in mission
critical metal joining applications.
Metglas®

distribution cores are used for
utility distribution and transmission
(DT) systems and commercial /
industrial applications reduce
operating costs and increase energy
efficiency.
Metglas®
Brazing Foils (MBF) and preforms
provide extensive manufacturing
and performance advantages over
conventional metal joining materials.
This unique form of amorphous
nickel based brazing filler metal
can substitute for previously
used copper foil or nickel powder
to braze stainless steel base
metal. This amorphous nickel foil
provides high strength and outstanding
corrosion resistance of brazed
joints.

by retailers for better inventory
control to detect shoplifters.

Emerging
Technologies
Metglas®'s unique
magnetic properties are constantly
evolving, and we work with many
industries in developing technologies
that would benefit from the use
of metglas, over conventional
materials. From motor applications
to power / energy saving devices,
Metglas has been proven to be
a leader in developing technologies
for the future.
